Wisconsin Dells has been in the tourism business for 150 years. There are three things that bring over three million visitors to the Dells each year – heart-pounding fun, waterparks and incredible natural resources.
Let's start with the fun – meaning hundreds of waterslides, tons of attractions, themed lodging choices, tasty restaurants, and boutique shopping. As for nature, the Dells is located along a meandering stretch of the Wisconsin River, with scenery unlike anything else in the world.
Not too crazy about the superlatives, but family fun is everywhere in the Dells. Check out the amusement parks with some of the country's most-written about roller coasters. Did we mention the Dells is also the go-kart and mini-golf capital of the world? Add to your to-do list a ski show that helped put the Wisconsin Dells community on the map; a theatre built for magic and another built for Broadway-style shows; and interactive museums built for adventure. You get the picture, tempting as it is.
The flip side of heart-pounding fun is the incredible scenic beauty of the Dells, and appropriately, much of that beauty is tied to water. The Wisconsin River, with its hauntingly beautiful and mysteriously teetering sandstone bluffs, bisects the city of Wisconsin Dells. Pristine natural resources first brought travelers here 150 years ago, and are still a huge draw today. You can tour the River on paddlewheeler or pontoon, and every variety of watercraft in between. For those preferring terra firma, the rock climbing is grand in the Dells, and the Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a hiker's dream come true.
